JustSystems Draws Up ROI Blueprint for Structured Content
Detailed Guide Brings Structured Authoring, Publishing Advantages to Entire Enterprise
NEW YORK — August 26, 2008 — JustSystems, the largest independent software vendor in Japan and a worldwide leader in XML and information management technologies, today announced the availability of the ROI Blueprint for Structured Content, a guide for expanding the advantages of structured authoring and publishing beyond technical documentation teams to include other enterprise domains in the organization. To view the interactive version of the blueprint, please visit http://na.justsystems.com/files/ROI_Blueprint.swf.
The ROI Blueprint for Structured Content articulates the business value of structured content across the entire value chain, providing ROI anecdotes, case studies, research examples and pointers to additional resources. In addition, the blueprint is the cornerstone of Developing a Strategic Roadmap for Structured Content, a comprehensive educational initiative that includes three webinars and companion commentaries. The program has been developed by JustSystems with support from The Gilbane Group, Inc., the analyst and consulting firm focused on content technologies and their application to high-value business applications. Taken together, the blueprint, webinars, and commentaries will arm technical communicators, information managers and Line of Business (LOB) executives with a complete vision, strategy and business justification for structured content across the enterprise.
“Structured authoring and publishing is the largest market that no one cares about,” said Aaron Deitcher, vice president of North America and EMEA for JustSystems. “Most organizations confine it to their technical documentation teams, but structured content is fundamentally important to so many things, from business processes to customer relationships and beyond. This blueprint helps companies make structured authoring and content a cornerstone of competitive advantage.”
Mary Laplante, senior analyst with The Gilbane Group, said, “Structured content is a competitive weapon. Many companies don’t understand this or appreciate its potential value across the entire enterprise. Structured content has increased revenues, reduced costs, and mitigated risk in techdocs for almost two decades. Enterprise functions can realize these same benefits. The JustSystems campaign will get the message out to stakeholders as well as executives.”
ROI Blueprint for Structured Content Basics
Designed for technical communicators, information managers and LOB executives, the ROI Blueprint for Structured Content addresses key organizational functions, including research and development, manufacturing, customer facing processes, service and support, and corporate administration. The blueprint defines what organizations need to do to leverage structured content to grow revenue, reduce cost, and mitigate risk based on three graduated maturity levels:
Level 1: Structured Content in Practice. Organizations at level 1 conduct a self-assessment of their own structured content practices, comparing their adoptions to peer benchmarks. They also make the business case for structured authoring across a variety of cross-functional domains.
Level 2: Structured Content for Leadership. Level 2 organizations create competitive advantage by leveraging structured content in unique and unexpected ways to dramatically improve the value of customer relationships and to drive cost and risk from key business processes. Here, advanced structured content investments align with corporate goals, and structured content projects contribute directly to strategic priorities.
Level 3: Structured Content for Transformation. At level 3, organizations explore the frontiers for structured content, including the importance of semantics and natural language processing in transforming isolated, unstructured information into free-flowing knowledge currency that can be shared and utilized for innovation, problem solving and decision making.
