XMetaL Author 5.5 Service Pack 1 addresses some critical defects affecting XMetaL customizations along with including enhancements to the XMetaL Reviewer add-on bundled with XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.5. A unique service pack installer is provided for XMetaL Author Enterprise and Essential products and the installers are available in both .exe and .msp installer formats.
The RulesFile property is commonly used by XMetaL customizations to determine where related assets and files are located. But, the RulesFile property was returning an incorrect value, either an empty string or a full path filename to the per-user copy of the corresponding .rlx or .rld file. This incorrect value resulted in XMetaL customizations being unable to properly locate other assets and files necessary for their proper operation. The related defects:
These two top-level XMetaL Author COM automation objects had their corresponding Windows registry entries written with an incorrect file path to the xmetal55.exe. The incorrect file path was always setup as 'C:\Program Files\XMetaL 5.5\Author\xmetal55.exe' regardless of the drive and folder chosen at installation time. As a result, users would experience various side effects including the following defects:
Adjusting the value of a CALS table's frame property via the Table Properties dialog would cause XMetaL Author to crash in the case when more than one table cell was selected beforehand.
The 'frame' dropdown will now be disabled in the Table Properties dialog whenever more than one table cell selected in the active document. Adjust the active document's selection to be an insertion point if you need to set a CALS table's frame property.
The 'Export with Reviewer Data' feature has been incorporated into the XMetaL Author Enterprise Service Pack 1 installers. This enhancement allows users to better prepare DITA content for reviewing when DITA conrefs are present.
The 'View Attachment' enahancement has been incorporated into the XMetaL Author Enterprise Service Pack 1 installers. This enhancement allows users to open attachments added during the review process.
XMetaL Author Enterprise or Essential 5.5 software must already be installed. This service pack installer will only apply itself to an existing 5.5 installation.
Note: Some installations require Vista's UAC feature be disabled or the service pack installer be given administrator privileges. Elevated privileges can be granted by right-clicking the service pack installer and choose 'Run as Administrator').
Note: If the XMetal_55_Patch_for_Reviewer_55_20090304.zip patch has been installed, it is recommend that this patch be removed prior to running the service pack installer.
The XMetaL Author service pack installers are available in two formats, .exe and .msp. The .exe format is meant for 'attended' installations and should be used if XMetaL Author was previously installed using setup.exe.
The .msp format is meant for 'unattended' or Citrix installations and should be used if XMetaL Author was previously installed using "XMetaL Author Enterprise.msi" or "XMetaL Author Essential.msi".
Please choose a format that meets your needs.
Double-click the xmee55_sp1.exe (Enterprise) or xmes55_sp1.exe (Essential) and follow the installer prompts.
Note: For XMetaL Author Enterprise installation, launch XMetaL Author once with the Ctrl-key held down to reset the workspace and toolbars. This is necessary to allow the new XMetaL Reviewer add-on menus to display.
Open a command prompt window into the directory where the .msp file is located and enter the following command:
msiexec.exe /quiet /update xmee55_sp1.msp
msiexec.exe /quiet /update xmee55_sp1.msp
To deploy the service pack on Citrix, create a package using the Citrix Installation Manager software:
No command line parameters are required to un-install.
Open a command prompt window into the directory where the .msp file is located and enter the following command:
msiexec.exe /quiet /uninstall xmes55_sp1.msp
When XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.5 service pack is installed, it doesn't provide a 'Remove' option. This is a known limitation that is a result of adding new files to the service pack installer's manifest that were not originally included with the XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.5 product installer.
To remove the service pack, the entire XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.5 product must be removed and re-installed without the service pack.
