Upgrading to DITA Open Toolkit 1.4.1 or 1.4.2
The BETA upgrade for the DITA Open Toolkits 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 is now available. This BETA is specifically for use with XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.1 only and should not be used with any other version. If you do not have XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.1 please contact the JustSystems XMetaL sales team to purchase or upgrade to that particular version. If you are not sure which version of the DITA OT you have please check the release notes shipped with XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.1 to see which version of the DITA OT is included.
Full instructions for installing and using either of the DITA OT is explained in the PDF file inside the ZIP archive. Please keep in mind that this is BETA code and should be treated as such -- there are specific warnings listed in the PDF.
We plan to always include the latest version of the DITA OT available at the time we go to market with XMetaL Author Enterprise. The DITA OT is 3rd party software and not under our control.

New Release: XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.5
Version 5.5 now has support for Microsoft Windows Vista. XMetaL Author 5.5 also has a number of usability and customization improvements including updated integration with third party components.
Highlights include:
- Windows Vista compatibility. XMetaL Author Enterprise is certified to run under Windows Vista with Vista’s UAC feature enabled. Moreover, XMetaL Author Enterprise doesn't rely on Vista's “Virtualization” feature to function correctly.
- Limited-user account enabled. XMetaL Author Enterprise is now installed assuming that the software is going to be used from a limited or restricted user account. Previous versions of XMetaL Author Enterprise required that the software be operated from a user account with local-admin privileges.
- Easy-to-access samples. DITA and other XML samples are now accessible directly via a new Help > Samples submenu. On machines with more than one user logged in, samples are preserved on a per-user basis, so each user can experiment with his or her own copy of the samples.
- New APIs. To extend its customizability, XMetaL Author Enterprise gains new APIs, event-macros, and INI switches.
- Third-party components. To increase user options for publishing XML content, XMetaL Author Enterprise embeds the DITA Open Toolkit 1.4.2.1, including version 1.4.1 of the FO plug-in from Idiom Technologies. RenderX XEP 4.12 is also embedded to generate output with XMetaL Enhanced PDF deliverable types.
