Training Packages for XMetaL

Authoring Content with DITA and XMetaL Author Enterprise
With our best practices methodologies, your authors will get three days of hands-on on-site training on effective creation of DITA content using XMetaL Author Enterprise. With advance input, we customize the training to include your corporate standards and guidelines, as well as include exercises that use your sample files.

Class participants learn how to:

• Author valid DITA task, concept, and reference topics with XMetaL Author Enterprise
• Combine topics to form deliverables
• Reuse content in multiple deliverables
• Publish from XML to HTML, PDF and other formats

Fundamentals of XMetaL Solutions (5 days)

• 1/2 day end-user training - XMetaL End-User
• 2 day implementation workshop - XMetaL Customizer
• 2 1/2 days best practices training, XML techniques - XMetaL Developer

XMetaL End-User (½ day)
XMetaL End-User is a basic hands-on course delivered in a classroom environment (limit: 12 students) for XML authoring in XMetaL (non DITA).

Pre-requisites: No prior XML experience necessary. Previous exposure to word processing software is recommended. It is also helpful if users have some knowledge of HTML and CSS. Arrangements for additional ½ days of end user training for specific customizations should be made in advance.

XMetaL Customizer (2 days)
XMetaL Customizer is a two-day course designed for those who want to extend and modify the out-of-the-box XMetaL authoring interface. With skills gained in this hands-on course, students can change the appearance and behavior of XMetaL to suit your organization's business needs. This course does not provide the knowledge required to modify XMetaL’s DITA application. To learn how to configure XMetaL’s DITA application please contact our support team.

Pre-requisites: XMetaL for End-User course or equivalent experience. Experience with HTML markup and CSS style sheets recommended.

Topics covered in this class include: gaining an understanding of the underlying file structure of an XMetaL customization; how to modify the contents of these files using Microsoft Visual Studio.NET; compile and deploy XMetaL customizations.

XMetaL Developer (2 ½ days)
XMetaL Developer training is available on-site for developers to learn more the API, integrating with content management systems, creating forms, scripting interfaces, the Document Object Model (DOM), and COM components.
